Are you looking for a way to improve your health and finally have some discipline on your diet? Have you tried multiple products but never had anything work for you?

Herbalife is everywhere. I’ve seen it on shirts, water bottles, and even stickers at the back of a car! I’m sure you’ve already heard about this networking giant!

If you’re considering it as an option, there are some truths about this company that you may need to know.

What Is Herbalife?

Herbalife is one of the most popular multi-level marketing companies nowadays. It started way back in 1980.

Mark Hughes was the proponent of this company that started selling products at the trunk of his car. His mother died due to an unhealthy approach to weight loss, thus motivating him to create a product of his own; the Formula 1. This protein shake is designed to help people manage their weight.

By 1985, it was the fastest-growing company in America according to Inc. Unfortunately, Hughes died in 2000 because of an accidental overdose of alcohol, doxepin, and anti-depressant.

Herbalife's Focus

Herbalife focuses on the health and wellness niche with a variety of products ranging from dietary supplements, weight management, sports nutrition and it didn’t stop at that.

They launched a line of personal care products including fragrances and cleansing products too!

With an astounding 3.2 million distributors, it operates in over 90 countries worldwide. It’s primary goal is to “change the nutritional habits of the world.”

Its headquarters is located in Los Angeles, California with manufacturing facilities located in the following locations:

  • Lake Forest, California
  • Winston Salem, North Carolina
  • Suzhou, Nanjing China

Herbalife sure proved that they are a giant in this industry! By 2013, it has its own botanical extraction facility in Changsha, Hunan Province. It’s producing its own botanical extracts that are included in the ingredients of their own products!

Products and Programs:

Herbalife products range from weight loss and protein shakes, protein bars, teas, vitamins, sports hydration to energy and personal care products.

By 2015, the original product of Herbalife, Formula 1 was the best seller with 30% of total sales.

Besides that, there are actual programs offered with options you can choose from. You can pick what you think is best for you. But, these available programs are not free! It ranges from $150-275 per month. Talk about pricey!

I didn’t have any idea that losing weight can be this expensive.

You should know that not all these works for everybody, may it be whatever product or diet you planned for. We all have different bodies with different ways of coping with sudden adjustments of diets, duration of metabolism, and such.

I don’t think I’d be losing weight with Herbalife, I’ll just end up losing money from it.

How Does Herbalife Work?

Truth be told, but most people who join Herbalife as distributors aren’t really there for the business opportunity.

How come?

It’s because the products are too expensive and the only way you’re guaranteed for a discount is by signing up as a distributor. Products are just purchased not for selling but for personal use. It sure is a wise tactic!

That was before, and now you can set up an account as a distributor or just a member! It’s totally up to you.

Do the Products work?

I admire the range of products that Herbalife has to offer. It focuses on nutrition and has formulated specific supplements to a variety of prospects, from women, men, and children. Besides the energy and fitness category, they have also introduced a line of skin and hair care products.

To answer the question if Herbalife products truly work…

That depends on who you’re going to ask.

Product effects and results vary with different kinds of people. We don’t have the same levels of reactions to certain chemicals or ingredients there are.

It may work for you, and it may not for me.

What I Like About Herbalife…

Of all the accusations I’ve read about this company, my mind had been clouded by nothing but negativity. What else is there to like about Herbalife anyway??? Just kidding!

No business can ever be perfect. Most have gone through the worst kinds of allegations but still have proven their integrity and legitimacy. Kudos to Herbalife for going through so many storms in the legal issues department but have managed to stand steady for years!

A Supportive Community

Herbalife is all about having a healthier lifestyle. It’s the focal point is to motivate people to achieve disciplined diets and better health through their products and programs. It will also provide you all that you need from tools and training to help you reach your personal and professional growth.

This company had shown perseverance in changing people’s lives with all that they have to offer. Despite the countless allegations and lawsuits filed against them, Herbalife sure knows how to stand like no earthquake intensity is going to shake them!

Thinking about it, nowadays, people have lacked discipline regarding a healthy diet, and doing so alone is really hard. It sure is great to have a guide on how to do things right and make sure you’re acquiring the products that work for you too.

True To Their Mission

Anyone can have a charitable foundation but could just be for good publicity. I’m not pertaining that every MLM company does charity work just for show. But who knows?

Isn’t it great for people to think, how a billion-dollar company gives back to the less fortunate?

Herbalife is committed to their social responsibility. In fact, they have the Herbalife Family Foundation and the Casa Herbalife Program that has over 120 branches worldwide. It’s purely dedicated to providing children better nutrition.

Endless Sponsorship

Since their products are solely based on wellness, it’s no surprise that this MLM giant spends lavishly on sponsoring sports events and athletes for years!

It’s like letting people know that well-known athletes like Christiano Ronaldo or the France National Volleyball Team are using the Herbalife products….therefore, it’s like convincing everyone to buy the products because famous people are consuming them.

Christiano Ronaldo for Herbalife

It’s a clever strategy most companies use. Having celebrities promote their products enticing average people to consume them as well. Giving them the mindset that it works for famous people, it will definitely work on you too.

My point actually is, I do love the fact that they have sponsored over 190 sporting events including the Special Olympics. I’ve always believed that funding sports and athletes are a great cause,

Precise Guarantees

A full money-back guarantee? It sounds like a melody to my ears! Who wouldn’t want to have a refund from products that never actually met our needs, anyway?

There’s a one-year refund policy for new distributors. Products that are unopened can be returned within 12 months for a full refund!

If you’re in any way unsatisfied with their products, you are allowed to return them and file for a refund!

Seed to Feed Strategy

In 2010, Herbalife implemented a change in its production process. They have implemented a seed to feed strategy wherein customers gain information regarding where the ingredients of the products originated. This also allows them to learn how everything is done, from where the fields are of the ingredients grown to the manufacturing process of how the products are done!

I think it’s something that the customers should be informed of and never deprived of knowing. I’d also love to have a complete idea of how the products I consume are made.

Ugly Truths Revealed!

So far, I had to admit that studying about Herbalife was such a burden to do. I wasn’t expecting to be bombarded by so many issues regarding the company’s products and such. I don’t want you to have the headache I had when writing this, but I warned you!

Countless Lawsuits and Complaints!

You might think that I’m exaggerating on this one, but unfortunately, I am not. They have more lawsuits filed than the achievements I’ve heard about.

Take note that you have to consider all of this if you think you’ll push through in being a part of Herbalife or not.

Exaggerated Product Claims

Food and Drug Administration had already filed complaints against Herbalife in 1982, which brought the company to revise its product claims and reformulate the actual product. Also, several of its products resulted to have higher levels of lead as a violation of the California State Law.

Also, the Department of Justice of Canada filed a lawsuit against Herbalife regarding its “misleading medical claims in advertisements.”

It seems like it’s typical for multilevel marketing companies to state such ridiculous claims regarding their products, deceiving people just to make successful sales.

Liver Damage Complaints

There was also a long debate about whether Herbalife products actually cause liver problems to its customers. Scientific studies were conducted here and there.

A number of patients who suffered from liver damage that stopped using Herbalife products recovered, but 2 of them died. Even so, employees of the company stated that there was no definitive proof that their products were the actual cause.

In conclusion to studies, it’s certain that there’s a high probability that the products actually caused liver disease.

Pyramid Scheme Allegations

Is Herbalife a scam???

Authorities like the Commercial Court in Belgium or not think that Herbalife is nothing but a fraud.

8, 700 former and current distributors at Herbalife accused the company of a pyramiding scheme! Can you believe that? A huge number of people who actually worked within that business had to file an allegation due to its questionable practices.

Even if it was included in one of the most profitable companies in Los Angeles County, Herbalife wasn’t able to dodge a 729-page filled with 192 complaints in a 7-year span released by FTC.

Did someone from Herbalife actually read that word per word? I hope it didn’t result in 7 years of headaches.

A $200 million was paid as a settlement with FTC in July 2016 that ended the accusations of a pyramid scheme against Herbalife that ever existed.

No Actual Income

I hate to break it to you, but I think this is one of the reasons why Herbalife is a scam to many.

Like most MLM, you either sell the products or have someone join your downline in order to actually earn some cash.

It’s as obvious as it gets, Herbalife products and programs offered are way too expensive. I believe you can find similar products that offer the same things or are better but at a much affordable and reasonable price!

Offering Herbalife to Family & Friends

If you are going to offer Herbalife to your family and friends, how are you going to convince them that Herbalife is any better than the available products that are cheaper but shares the same benefits?

I don’t know what’s more complicated, trying to sell such expensive products with claims of a better result or having to sell nothing at all because it’s actually pricey when there are other options out there?

Either way, I’m so glad I was never a fan of direct selling and networking companies.

Another lawsuit was also filed alleged that Herbalife has made false promises towards its distributors regarding the income opportunity they offer and the huge amount of commissions from every successful sale they make.

The allegations are really endless and tiring. Hang tight because we’re not over with this review just yet!

Is Herbalife A Scam?

Reading through all the allegations and lawsuits filed against Herbalife at Wikipedia really gave me a headache.  From exaggerated product claims, withholding income of its own distributors to liver damage caused by the products. Disappointing to be honest.

So, is Herbalife a scam?

It’s far from being one despite all the accusations of it as a pyramid scheme.

I always believed that success at any MLM company is only inevitable if you have joined it early, when it’s still fresh to the industry. Thinking about joining a networking company that had been there for decades isn’t a likely option. You’re just going to make your upline richer, and you’d obviously have the hardest times in barely making a profit.

Would I Recommend Herbalife?

For every MLM company, expect me to say no. I don’t have to repeat all the lawsuits filed against it, do I? There’s more to that as to why I won’t recommend it for you. Products are expensive, there’s not enough guarantee that it will be effective for you. Income potential is as low as it’s the success rate.

Affiliate Marketing is still the best option! You don’t have to worry if your upline is earning more than you do or be pressured by recruiting more downlines just to earn something. 1. Glad we’re on the same boat Cory!

I’ve joined Herbalife’s cultic speeches before and though I totally hate and despise its members, Herbalife isn’t a scam. It’s an old MLM system like the rest of these pyramid schemes and I have friends who are good at recruiting but most of the members inside are very pushy when it comes to sales that they get on my nerves.

    • It’s impressive how long Herbalife has been in business. There must be money to be made, and their products seem to be pretty good but overpriced like most MLM products. If you’re a good salesperson this company might be right for you but for me, I will stick with affiliate marketing.

  2. Wow! Such a detailed overview you have given through this review of Herbalife and definitely, you have cleared a lot of misconceptions about them. I initially didn’t know they were an MLM business which I hate to join because I had listed a lot of money to them in the past. Also, I had initially thought they offer a great product for them to have gotten a great player like Ronaldo to be an ambassador but then, I got disappointed considering the fact that their product cause all these problems. Even if one were to successfully buy into the costly products, there’s a limited guarantee of being able to make reasonable sales coupled with the MLM complex commission structure. This is great! Thanks

    • Glad I could help! Buyer beware is very apparent with MLM products. If it wasn’t for Ronaldo Herbalife probably wouldn’t have stood the test of time!
