History of The Pampered Chef – Acquisition

Just like other MLM stories, Pampered Chef started in the basement of Doris Christopher (the founder) in 1980 when she first had her cooking party. The company’s mission is to give confidence to people who love to be in the kitchen and provide them with the tools and recipes to create enjoyable meals with their families.

In 1990, the business outgrew the basement, and, soon enough, it expanded in the UK, Germany, and Canada. During this time, the company was saying that it keeps growing and expanding but came in 2002 when Pampered Chef was bought by Berkshire Hathaway company which was owned by Warren Buffet.

In April 2020, they named Andrew Treanor as the Chief Executive Officer of The Pampered Chef. Before this, he was responsible for the company’s global operations and technologies which includes supply chain, solutions, facilities, and distribution. He was also the Chief Operating Officer.

Pampered Chef Products

Pampered Chef offers hundreds of products to its consumers. Some of the products of the company are more expensive compared to their competitors or the other ones that are available in the market. This is normal considering that Pampered Chef runs in an MLM structure.

When I said earlier that Pampered Chef has got you covered in your kitchen, I meant it.

Pampered Chef has everything. From bakeware, cooking tools, cookware, frozen treats, replacement parts, and more. Because of this, the company decided to showcase its products on its website with lots of sections.

You can see all their products here. So, here are just some of the company’s product sections:

  • New
  • Favorites
  • $25 and Under
  • $10 and Under
  • Enrichables
  • Featured Collections
  • Bakeware
  • Bundles and Sets
  • Cooking Tools
  • Cookware
  • Stoneware
  • And more!

You will also find some recipes that they recommend and, sometimes, use on their host parties here. Some of the things you’ll find here are recipes for:

  • Desserts
  • Beverages
  • Main Dishes
  • Side Dishes
  • Gluten-Free
  • Budget-Friendly
  • 30 Minutes or Less
  • Low-Carb
  • And more!

What I like about Pampered Chef is that they have the rating per product. With this, you can check if other consumers approve the product or not. Also, I believe that all the ratings are honest ones since you’ll find thousands of reviews giving 3 stars or less.

Pampered Chef Compensation Plan

Just like other MLM companies, Pampered Chef rewards their consultants on a commission basis. Also, before you can join the business, you must buy at least 1 consultant kit.

  • Starter Kit worth $99
  • Deluxe Kit worth $159
  • Ultimate Kit worth $259

To see the inclusions of the kits, you can go here.

Pampered Chef is keen to maintain and add more of their consultants. Here are some of the other benefits if you join this company.

  • You can get up to 50% discount on available products
  • You have the option to avail of their free online tools and website to jump-start your business. This includes online training, one-on-one mentoring, and team meetings. (Mind you, the free websites would look 99.99% the same as other websites for the consultants)
  • You have the option to order the products and let the company deliver it straight to your customer's doorsteps.
  • You also get a discount if you host your own party for Pampered Chef. This discount would range from $25 to $50 off your kit.

You might be thinking now that you would like to give Pampered Chef a try. Don’t rush in yet.

You see, 90+% of all consultants in the multi-level marketing company do not succeed or even get their investments back. In my article How to Earn in Multi-level Marketing, you’ll get to see the research and the summary of how many people earn from this type of business.

In the next section, I will discuss the reviews, complaints, and rating of the company.

Reviews | Complaints | Rating

In the multi-level marketing industry, the rating, accreditation, and reviews you’ll find in BBB.org can mean if the business is doing good or not.

While I was doing my research on Pampered Chef, I noticed that there are only 9 reviews in BBB.org even if the company was already registered in the late ‘90s. The BBB has accredited Pampered Chef on Dec. 7, 1998, and has given them an A+ rating.

Here are some of the reviews you’ll on the site:

In seriouseats.com, you’ll also find a collection of complaints from both customers and consultants themselves. Most of these complaints are on the products being easily broken even after just one use and the poor customer service of Pampered Chef.

Here are just some of the complaints you’ll find on the site:

As you can see, not a lot of people are fond of the products and customer service of Pampered Chef. In the next section, I will discuss some of the things that I like about the company and the things I don’t like.

What I Like About Pampered Chef

Easy to Understand Compensation Plan

Most of the MLM reviews that I’ve done so far have an over-the-top, too complicated compensation plan that you would need the genius to solve all of it, but that is not the case in Pampered Chef.

This is one of the few companies that offer an easy to understand compensation plan to its consultants. Plus, you can easily join their webinar on how you can join their company (not that I recommend doing it).

Discounts and Offers

Being a consultant in Pampered Chef will give you exclusive discounts on their products and has loads of other things to offer. This includes a website to start your business online, up to 50% discount on products, and the commission.

Affordable Products

This is true to some of their products since you’ll find lots of products at less than $25 like cooking utensils and tools. This is way easier to sell and accumulate your commissionable earnings.

What I Don’t Like About Pampered Chef

Expensive Products

Yes, I know. I just mentioned “affordable products” earlier, but that is just some of their products. In Pampered Chef, you’ll find that most of their products are more expensive compared to other brands in the market. This is because they give out commissions to their consultants on a per-product basis.

Also, most of their products are overpriced and are not reliable compared to their competitors. If you choose to become a consultant, you’ll find it difficult to have constant buyers on a monthly basis which will affect your possible income.

Hosting Parties are Tiresome

One of the few ways for you to earn money in Pampered Chef is for you to host parties. This would mean gathering up your friends and family, prepping up a good meal for them, and, possibly, making them buy products from you.

I know this sounds fun, but imagine doing it every week. You’ll run out of family and friends, especially because some people are not into these kinds of stuff. You’ll get tired of doing the same speech every week and you’ll have to find a different way to sell your products.

Legit or Scam?

Now, to answer the most important question of all, is Pampered Chef a scam? No, it’s not.

Pampered Chef has been in the industry for 40 years now and is still doing the same scheme ever since they’ve started. In terms of stability, you can rest assured that this company is in good hands with Berkshire Hathaway and will set to grow even bigger with their newly appointed CEO.

Product-wise, some of their products are very useful. They have a variety of products to choose from which is a good sign for me since, as a consultant, you can sell from a wide range of prices. Although, you should read more reviews on specific products like tools and cookware since a lot of them are not quality.

As to becoming a consultant, I don’t recommend it because it would be really difficult for you to find constant customers. Yes, you can sell first within your inner circle (families and friends), but, soon enough, you’ll have to find outside this circle.

Like I said earlier, Pampered Chef has been around the market for 40 years and has more than 65,000 consultants within the UK, Germany, and Canada, where you can find new recruits or buyers. Also, news of the company having to refund and replace products is well-known which is why you need to convince your buyers to trust the company.

In the long run, joining this MLM company won’t make you rich or even make you want to quit your job. If you love cooking, then you can make use of their product discounts, but that’s all.
